NORTHWEST NATIVE CHAMBER COOLING PORTLAND INTAKE QUESTIONNAIRE

The Northwest Native Chamber (NWNC) has received funding from the City of Portland's Cooling Portland program to serve as a Community Distribution Partner, installing free cooling units in vulnerable homes across Portland. This program provides life-saving and efficient portable heat pump/cooling equipment to Portland’s low-income people and communities of color, prioritizing those most vulnerable to the impacts of extreme heat fueled by climate change.

Eligibility guidelines - Applicants must meet the following requirements to receive a cooling unit:

  • Live within Portland city limits
  • Have a household income that is 60% or less of the Area Median Income, adjusted for household size. A chart for these levels for 2023 is at: https://www.portland.gov/phb/documents/2023-income-and-rent-limits-phb/download

Priority populations - Based on vulnerabilities revealed in the 2021 heat dome event, applicants who do not have a current cooling device and who meet the following criteria will be prioritized:

  • Are over 60 years of age
  • Have medical conditions that increase risks of heat related illness
  • Are living alone

Please note: Completing this questionnaire is not a guarantee of service. If you meet the eligibility requirements you will be contacted to schedule an installation.
